Fatima Mata School of Nursing

The mission of School of Nursing, Fatima Mata Mission Hospital is the brain child of Fr. Thomas Kuttiyani CMI with the support of Fr. Joseph Mattam CMI in the year 1995. Fatima Mata Nursing School was the district’s first Nursing School among the Private Sector. The school aims in planting and harvesting well qualified, skillful and eminent nurses to meet the health needs of the population irrespective of caste, creed, race, gender and religion. To enable further professional growth, there is a felt-need to develop a deep pride in Nursing Profession among the students, with the approval from Indian Nursing Council & Kerala Nursing & Midwives Council. The school has successfully trained and sent out twenty-one batches of students and they are rendering fruitful services in various parts of the world.The general nursing and midwifery Course with duration of 3 years is recognized by the Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council and Indian Nursing Council.

General Nursing and Midwives Course
- The candidate on completion of GNM course will be able to:
  
  Asses the nursing need of clients from birth to death.
  
  Plan and carry out appropriate action to meet nursing needs.
  
  Promote self care in people under their care.
  
  Apply problem solving techniques in nursing practice.
  
  Evaluate effectiveness of nursing care.
- Apply knowledge from the humanities, biological and behavioral sciences in functioning as a nurse.
- Function effectively with members of the health team and community applying the knowledge of human relations and communication skill in her work
- Participate as member of the health team in delivery of curative, preventive, promotive and rehabilitative health care services.
- Demonstrate interest in activities of professional organization.
- Recognize the need for continuing education for professional development.
- Demonstrate basic skills in teaching patients and giving nursing care to them.
- Demonstrate basic skills in administration and leadership while working with other members of health team and community.
- Assist in research activities.

Eligibility for Admission to GNM Course
- Candidates for admission to GNM should have passed 10+2/equivalent examination with English as one subject, minimum of 40% marks from any recognized board. Candidates belonging to SC/ST category with pass mark are eligible for application. Science group with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology is preferable. In the absence of candidates with science group, candidates with other group also will be considered.
- Candidates from State open School recognized by State Government and National Institute of Open School (NIOS) recognized by Central Government are also eligible for admission.
- Registered ANM also can apply
- Candidates who have passed 10+2 Health Care Science – Vocational stream from a recognized CBSE board/State/Centre are also eligible for application.
Reservation
- For disabled candidates: 3% disability reservation is considered for candidates with a disability of locomotors to the tune of 40% to 50% of the lower extremity. Other eligibility criteria with regard to age and qualification will be same as prescribed for the GNM programme. Medical certificate should be obtained from authorized Medical Board of State Government.
- Any other quotas as per the State Govt. under the reservation policy.
Duration of the Course:
- Duration of the Diploma Course in General Nursing and Midwifery shall be 3 years. The maximum period allowed to complete General Nursing and Midwifery Course is 6 years.
Age
- Minimum age for admission will be 17 years (as on 31st December 2017). The upper age limit is 35 years. For ANM/LHV, there is no age bar. There is a relaxation of age by 5 years in the upper age limit for SC/ST candidates and three years for other backward communities.
