Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU):

  • Purpose: The MICU is designed for patients with severe medical conditions requiring intensive treatment, such as infections, respiratory issues and organ failure.
  • Key Features: Advanced respiratory support systems, dialysis machines and continuous monitoring equipment.
  • Common Conditions: Sepsis, pneumonia, respiratory distress, multi-organ failure.

Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU):

  • Purpose: The SICU is dedicated to patients recovering from major surgeries or with complex surgical complications that need close monitoring.
  • Key Features: Surgical recovery beds, wound care technology, specialized ventilators.
  • Common Conditions: Post-operative recovery for major surgeries (abdominal, cardiac), trauma, complex surgical wounds.

Coronary Care Unit (CCU):

  • Purpose: This unit specializes in the care of patients with serious heart conditions, such as heart attacks and cardiac arrhythmias.
  • Key Features: Cardiac monitors, defibrillators, ventilators and support for administering thrombolytics.
  • Common Conditions: Myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, heart failure, post-cardiac surgery care.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU):

  • Purpose: The NICU provides specialized care for new-borns with critical health issues, often those born prematurely or with congenital conditions.
  • Key Features: Incubators, ventilators, phototherapy units and technology for neonatal monitoring.
  • Common Conditions: Prematurity, low birth weight, respiratory distress syndrome, congenital anomalies.

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU):

  • Purpose: This ICU is for critically ill children, typically from infancy up to age 18, requiring intensive treatment and monitoring.
  • Key Features: Pediatric ventilators, dialysis machines, specialized medication dosing for children.
  • Common Conditions: Severe infections, respiratory illnesses, trauma, congenital or genetic conditions.
